Look for specifics, not reassurance
“We stand behind our jewellery” is not an aftercare policy. A genuine policy names a time window, what it covers (resizing, cleaning, repairs, stone tightening), and any conditions. If a profile only offers reassurance language, that is useful information in itself — ask directly for specifics.
“Ask for a specific time window and scope, not general reassurance.”
From the practical checklist
Separate warranty from goodwill
Some aftercare is a documented warranty; some is discretionary goodwill the business may or may not extend. Both can be genuinely useful, but they are not the same commitment, and it is worth knowing which one you are being offered.
Ask what voids coverage
Resizing by a third party, certain repairs, or normal wear on softer stones can void aftercare coverage at some businesses. Ask this directly rather than discovering it later.
Practical checklist
- ✓ Ask for a specific time window and scope, not general reassurance.
- ✓ Confirm whether a policy is a warranty or discretionary goodwill.
- ✓ Ask what actions would void coverage.
