Sizing systems vary by region

Hong Kong jewellers commonly reference Hong Kong, US and UK sizing systems, which are not simply offset by a fixed number — always confirm which system a quoted size refers to.

What limits a resize

Band width, stone setting style (particularly eternity and pavé settings), and certain alloys can limit how far a ring can be safely resized in either direction.

When to size at the jeweller versus a separate service

For rings bought directly from a brand, ask whether resizing is included or discounted before using a third-party service, since the original maker may offer better terms.

Practical checklist

  • Confirm which sizing system (HK / US / UK) a quoted size uses.
  • Ask whether the setting style limits how far the ring can be resized.
  • Check with the original seller about resizing terms before going elsewhere.
